When I was a kid the only pug I ever knew was our landlord's pug, Bruno, who farted all the time. Ha ha ha! I didn't think much about pugs otherwise, but pretty much my entire adult life I wanted a pug but was too afraid to take on the responsibility of a dog on my own. When I met Cory he said he had a dog, so I asked what kind, figuring he'd say a lab. When I heard he had a pug I practically broke his ear drum screaming, "I love pugs!" Cory is even more devoted to the pug than I, as there are other breeds I would like to have, but not Cory, the pug is the only dog for him.
Tamara, This really surprises me coming from you. I thought for sure you'd say you have always been in love with Poodles! I understand where your concerns were, to be a *responsible* owner, of any dog, is truly a task to take on. I wonder if Cory knew you were the girl for him, right then and there, while screaming, "I love pugs!" LOL!!! :D
I have always been a Schnauzer lover and that will never change, a boxer actually taught me to walk so I'm partial to them as well; BUT since Payton entered our lives I can't imagine not having a pug to love.
When my husband, Tim, and I were getting serious about getting a dog, we did lots of research as to what breed would be best. I grew up with a mini schnauzer, but I always had a fondness to great danes...maybe because of Scooby Doo. We also checked into boxers and a few others. I'm not sure how the pug got brought up, but we found that it was either between a pug and a great dane. I know that seems strange, but they actually have similar tendencies. Anyway, during a trip to St Louis to get something else, we saw Payton and it was all over. The rest is history. Love, Christy
Scooby-Doo is classified as a great dane?!?!! I did not know that. Huh. Nor did I know GD and pugs were similar in their tendencies. As I picture the breeds....here is what comes to mind for me: Pugs THINK they are the size of a great dane and Great Danes think they are small lap dogs like pugs.
I don't actually know what happened to me, haha. It kind of crept up on us and I can't remember when it actually hit me, but there came a point in my life where I just knew I needed and wanted a pug. My boyfriend was really confused about it, too.. But he's a good guy and didn't oppose the idea. He was never really a "dog" person, but let me tell you something... A pug can soften the heart of the toughest man! We got Biggie and I fell in love immediately. I actually met him a week before I got to take him home and that was absolute torture!!! The longest week of my LIFE! haha. Ollie came to us about 6 months later as a rescue, and I know that I will probably never be loved more by anything else in this world.. My boys are my life, and I can't wait to take in another!! Hugs! Angie, Biggie and Ollie
Mutt !! Always had 2 dogs at home when I was growing up. My parents love animals, but for some reason it was always 2 dogs and one cat at home... I always wanted smushed faced dog, but smushed faced dogs won't be my jogging parhers. So I stayed away from them. I now have 2 fawn pugs to cuddle, they sure are not my workout buddy, but they lower my blood pressure more than jogging alone. Getting older changed my view. Pugs are perfect for middle aged women : ) Gosh, hate to say myself as a middle aged woman....
At least you knew enough to *know* that smushed face dogs don't make for good jogging partners. Often times people forget about the actual breed and their capabilities, and only see the "cuteness" of a puppy. I think that is very mature of you (and not in a middle aged woman mature sense) that you waited until you got your two fawn pugs.
Hmm yes and no. I've known for two years I wanted a pug, about the time I started reading the Daily Puglet...wonder if that's linked? Finally it happened and I couldn't be happier. My two are great walking partners and are really helping to get us out more. :D - Opaka's human.
Not always. Had a Boston growing up, and then got another one immediately after I got married. I can't even tell you why, but all of the sudden, I HAD to have a pug to be a sibling to my Bostie. I was fully aware of the possible health issues. I also wanted a Frenchie, but Coco waltzed into the picture unexpectedly and we have been Pug crazy since. I will always, always have a Boston and Pug in my life. Holy smokes though, the shedding! No one told me about that :)Guess I consider it "texture" to food at this point.
Mom says she is lucky, she thinks I am one of those pugs with a single layer coat. Shedding: Did you ever check out Dinovite products? They claims to help with shedding and licking and a whole bunch of other issues. I'm not advocating, just thinking you might want to check them out.

I respect you love for the other breeds, but also for allowing one special one to share your heart.

Us pugs work wonders on tough indecisive men!!! We have a magic about us. LOL!
DeleteI can imagine your week must have seemed like pure torture!!!
And I have to agree, there is nothing in the world that can compare to the love of a pug.
I hope mom gets one more too! I get lonely all by myself.
