hi all

Mom wanted to write a minute....or two or threee..or *yawn*.......

I'm sorry buddy didn't post for two days.  It isn't his fault, it was partly the weather and my insecurities creeping up like they do.

I've been out of work for 7 months now, and I haven't a clue on how to "get back in the swing of things", nor do I have a "passion" I feel I need to pursue.

I love staying home with my boy.....but I keep seeing all the bills get higher and higher in their pile.

I've been applying like crazy......but nothing has come through.  I had two interviews in those 7 months and nothing has happened.  I know the economy is rough and work is hard for everyone...but if anyone knows of anything, or could suggest something for me, I would be completely grateful!!!

My emotional side (I'm a pisces) loves being home and secluded and not answering to a boss or almost crying on the interstate roads due to some jackassery..............but the financial reality side makes me cry too.

I feel at a loss.

Suggestions?? Comments??? Anything????

  1. If you have administrative skills, what about being a virtual assistant? You could still stay home with your boy, basically be your own boss, and pay your bills. I know some of the scariness you face, as I have pieced together an income over the past year.

  2. hi tamara,
I would *LOVE* to do that, admin is what I do actually (receptionist for 7 yrs)....sadly, I don't know how to sort the scam from the legit stuff! :( Ideas????

I actually read your blog the other day, about being a freelance writer and/or photog. I don't have experience in either, but would love to do that some day as well!!!!! That would be a dream for me.
The Pisces in me always talks myself out of doing things I'd probably handle just fine. And I loathe the city.....almost makes me nauseous. ech.

  3. Opaka's human here: I'm sorry I don't have any brilliant ideas but I just wanted to give you a *hug* to go along with the snuggles you're getting from Buddy no doubt. I know how you're feeling being a pisces as well I love that I don't have to work every day, but sometimes it really worries me that I'm not bringing in enough. I'll be thinking and hoping for you.

  4. Opaka human,
AWW!!! Thanks!!!! Virtual hugs are always welcome!!!
It's ok you don't have any brilliant ideas, I just know sometimes sharing can lead to other things, so even though it was a bit weird for me, I thought it might help somehow.
I'm looking into Tamara's idea as best I can. :D

  5. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get started as a virtual assistant, but have only heard it is a booming market. Hmmm, maybe volunteer to do newsletters for a local animal group, such as your local pug rescue? It won't pay, but it is still experience to put on a resume. Someone once said to me that the great thing about volunteer work is that you can hold a position you might not be able to get otherwise, yet still put it on your resume.

If you are crafty at all, there is Etsy. Then as a last resort, yet something I've done more than once, liquidate goods hanging around your house you no longer use. I had a garage sale in July and made $200 by getting rid of items useless to me. Two years prior I made $1500 selling items (old collectibles & jewelery) on eBay. Obviously the selling of goods is only temporary but it can help pay those bills.

Also, what about pet care? My friend started a pet sitting/dog walking service nine months ago and it is now already almost full-time, and that is taking care of pets within a mile radius of her home. I've been filling in the gaps with dog walking.

Oh, and one more thing. I don't know what your housing situation is, but you could always be a resident manager at an apartment complex and get your rent paid for, and often times earn a supplemental salary. You'd want to be picky about the property management company and the complex, but it can be a good gig where you get to stay close to home.

Okay, I think I'm out of ideas. Sorry, I kinda went on and on. :)

  9. Buddy's mom, you said you are in central OH? I work for large insurance company. I get to work from home with Sammy and Neko. Try large company to see if they have telecommuting job. Our company is promoting "work from home" to save $ on rent/space, utility, etc. I am sure all other big companies are doing the same.
Hugs and hugs and more hugs !! Hang in there!!
